Born in Lucca, Italy in 1982 Mattia began his vocal studies with the contralto Fernanda Piccini. He holds a degree in Cinema, Theatre and Music (Majoring in Music) from the University of Pisa where he graduated in 2007. From 2005 he studied with M° Massimo Morelli, with whom he maintained a collaborative partnership, realising numerous concerts for the “Puccini and his Lucca Festival”. This involved performing roles in the productions of Madama Butterfly (Sharpless in 2005), La Bohéme (Schaunard in 2006 e Marcello in 2008), and Tosca (Sagrestano in 2007) and also a recital dedicated to Mozart which toured to Egypt..

In 2005 he debuted in Gianni Schicchi as Simone with M° Herbert Handt in the Teatro Antica Rassicurati of Montecarlo and in L’elisir d’amore as Belcore in Volterra directed by M° Seghedoni. .

In 2006 Mattia performed the roles of Commendatore and Biagio in Don Giovanni composed by Gazzaniga and Masetto in Mozart’s Don Giovanni directed by M° Herbert Handt. In October that year Mattia sang in Simon Boccanegra as Paolo at the Rosetum theatre in Milano and in 2007 in I Pagliacci as Silvio in Peccioli. Following in the Festival of Presidi of Orbetello he performed in Rigoletto as Marullo and La Traviata as Barone, both directed by M° Seghedoni. Mattia participated in masterclasses with Mirella Freni and Michele Pertusi..

In 2008 Mattia debuted the role of Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro by W.A.Mozart and as Marcello in La Bohéme in Florence with “Concerto Classico” and performed once again as the Sagrestano in Tosca at the Festival “Estate Regina” in Montecatini. In the summer season he reprised the role of Marullo in other representations: Cagli, Fano and Recanati (Marche). Alongside operatic productions, he has participated in numerous concerts of sacred and lyric repertoire, including a concert dedicated to the Lucchesian musician Emilio Maggini conducted by M° Gianfranco Cosmi in the cathedral of S. Martino (Lucca). In the same year he sang in Livorno with the tenor Lando Bartolini then in Belguim at the Town Hall of Sint-Niklass with a programme dedicated to Mozart and Puccini..

From December 2008 Mattia has studied at the “Scuola dell’Opera Italiana” of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna participating in nurmerous masterclasses with Paolo Coni, Fiorenza Cedolins, Jose Cura, Paolo Barbacini, Alfonso Antoniozzi, Dolora Zajick, and Francesco Meli. He studies vocal technique with Tsai Hui-Ju and Paola Pittaluga. In February he sang the role of Perichaud in La Rondine at the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, conducted by Jose Cura and directed by Walter Le Moli. In June Mattia debuted as Malatesta in the new production of Don Pasquale conducted by M° Leonardo Vordoni and directed by Alfonso Antoniozzi. This month he performs once again at the Teatro Comunale of Bologna in Madama Butterfly conducted by M° Roberto Polastri and directed by Osvaldo Salvi as Yamadori and Commissario Imperiale.
